HMRC Departmental Report 2009
HMRC’s Departmental Report 2009 was recently presented to parliament by the Financial Secretary and is now available on HMRC’s website. This Report outlines that HMRC collected £435.7 billion in tax revenue in 2008–09, down £21.3 billion from 2007–08’s figure of £457 billion. Income Tax accounted for 34% of overall taxes collected while as expected, CGT and Stamp taxes amounted to a modest 1.9% and 1.7% respectively of the total tax take for 2008–09.
The report also outlines the composition of complaints received in respect of the various sections of HMRC with the Tax Credit Office topping the list on 41,107 complaints in 2008/09- accounting for 47% of total complaints received.
