OECD Present Report on Progress made against International Tax Evasion
Deputy Secretary-General and Chief Economist Pier Carlo Padoan presented the OECD's report on international tax evasion to G20 Finance Ministers in Seoul on 12 November. Mr Padoan noted that more than 500 information exchange agreements have been signed with more than 40 peer reviews to evaluate the legal and regulatory framework for transparency and exchange of information initiated of which 8 are completed.
Mr Padoan also noted that the OECD's work is not limited to improving tax compliance and it was also focusing on how to redesign tax systems to “enhance productivity” by removing distortions and improving incentives to work, save, invest and innovate. He invited all G20 Finance Ministers to participate in a high-level roundtable on 13 April on how to achieve pro-growth tax reforms.
