Updated iXBRL FAQs and Roadshow Presentation Slides Now Available

The iXBRL FAQs have been updated by Revenue to reflect a number of questions raised in the course of the iXBRL Roadshows and as such are helpful. Regrettably, they also serve to emphasise that all of the iXBRL filing advantages are in favour of Revenue. While many businesses for their own commercial reasons are becoming iXBRL compliant, not all are. The iXBRL transition for such companies represents little other than an additional tax compliance cost with neither incentive nor recompense.

As readers will be aware from previous reports in tax.point, filing in iXBRL is voluntary for all corporation taxpayers from 23 November and from 1 January income tax payer can choose to file iXBRL accounts. With effect from 1 October 2013, filing in iXBRL will be mandatory for all corporation taxpayers who are customers of Revenue's Large Cases Division. The iXBRL FAQs cover a range of technical and practical questions and the most recent updates to the FAQs cover the filing of financial statements separate from the CT1/Form 11, the requirement to submit separate financial statements for each group company and the exclusion from filing accounts in iXBRL for dormant companies.

Regarding the exclusion from filing accounts in iXBRL, Chartered Accountants Ireland is engaging with Revenue as to the meaning of dormant companies for the purpose of the exclusion.

The updated iXBRL FAQs are published on the Revenue's website www.revenue.ie.

The Business Reporting Ireland Ltd/Revenue XBRL Roadshows were undertaken in August/September to advise tax filers of what is involved in filing in XBRL with Revenue. A recording of the Roadshow Presentation (video, audio and slides) delivered by the speakers from both the practitioner community and from Revenue as well as separately the Roadshow Slides were recently published on the Revenue's iXBRL website page.
