Any LPT increase should be “modest and affordable”
Those were the words of Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe who appeared before the Budgetary Oversight Committee recently. Earlier this year, the Minister deferred the revaluation date until 1 November 2020 in order to allow time to look at options to remodel local property tax (LPT). LPT generated around €480 million last year and the Minister during his speech said he would like to have a “model of band widening combined with LPT rate changes” and would like the “tax to play a more significant and positive role in our overall taxation system”.
