President of the European Council Charles Michel and President of the Commission Ursula von der Leyen also informed the leaders about their discussions with Prime Minister Boris Johnson at the EU-UK high-level meeting held via video conference on 15 June 2020. Addressing the press afterwards, President Charles Michel reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to reaching an agreement with the UK. He also reiterated the EU’s stance on the essential topics of negotiation, such as the level playing field, governance, and the Ireland/Northern Ireland Protocol. He also stressed the need to intensify negotiations, as the UK have no intention to ask for an extension to the transition period.
