The Commission has published “Taxation trends in the European Union: 1995–2005”. This report contains a detailed statistical and economic analysis of the tax systems of the Member States of the European Union and Norway. This year's issue features a more detailed analysis of consumption taxation (breakdown of consumption taxes into their components: VAT, energy, alcohol and tobacco duties, and other taxes) and for the first time covers Bulgaria and Romania, which joined the EU on 1 January 2007.

This publication is based on data available on 1 February 2007. Until 2006, this report was titled “Structures of the Taxation Systems in the EU”.
