HMRC are trying to encourage taxpayers to file their SDLT returns online by providing the 5 top reasons to file online, which includes a guarantee that an SDLT 8 letter asking for further information will not be sent.

The top 5 reasons are:

1. Electronic SDLT 5
2. No SDLT 8
3. Fast and efficient
4. Immediate submission
5. Saves time and money

Also, HMRC have advised that SDLT 1s can now be amended by Helpline staff – whether or not the SDLT 5 certificate has been issued.
