Included in the 30th Pensions Tax Simplification Newsletter is important information on e-filing. It is now mandatory for Scheme Administrators of registered pension schemes to submit certain information to HMRC online.
The last date for submitting papers returns was 15 October. HMRC have advised that if a paper form has been completed and posted before 16 October, they will accept it as validly made even if it is received after that date if it has been held up by delays arising from the planned postal dispute.
In addition, a new version to the user guide for Scheme Administrators and Practitioners using the Pension Scheme Online Service is available from the HMRC website.
Managed Service Companies
HMRC and HMT continue to work closely with the recruitment industry to provide clarity regarding the MSC legislation.
Submitting Year End Returns
HMRC have published technical guidelines on the submission of PAYE, Income Tax & National Insurance 2008–2009 returns using magnetic media.
Employer provided medical check-ups
Regulations came into effect from 14 August 2007 to exempt employer provided health screening and medical check ups from tax. HMRC want to discuss unforeseen issues arising from the regulations with employers and their representatives.
