HMRC has issued statistics regarding estimates of the number and aggregate value of property transactions for 2006 to 2008.

The statistics note that the number of transactions (priced at £40,000 or above) in the UK fell by 789,000 between 2006 and 2008 with the biggest decline being in the number of transactions being carried out by individuals, with the fall here being 752,000 or 46.5%. While the overall number of transactions fell by 45% in the period, the fall in value was 38%.
