Revised VAT Notice 702 “Imports”

HMRC published the above document which will be of interest to anyone importing goods into the UK from outside the fiscal (VAT) territory of the European Community (EC). The extent of the fiscal territory is explained in section 9 of the Notice.

The notice has been revised to update addresses, legislative references, and to reflect the enlargement of the EC. Otherwise the technical content is unchanged from the October 2006 edition.

However readers should note that the Economic Operator Registration and Identification (EORI) scheme was implemented in the European Union (EU) UK on 1 July 2009. If you import from or export to countries outside of the EU you will require an EORI number.
