Anti-fraud Network EUROFISC Starts Operational Work
Anti-fraud experts from the EU's 27 national tax administrations gathered on 7 and 8 February in Paris for the first EUROFISC meeting. EUROFISC is a mechanism provided for Member States to enhance their administrative cooperation in combating organised VAT fraud and especially carousel fraud. The objective of this network is to facilitate quick and targeted sharing of information between all Member States on fraudulent activities.
The EUROFISC network was established by a Regulation on administrative cooperation and combating VAT fraud and officially launched on 10 November 2010. Close co-operation between national tax administrations and common risk analysis is, in the view of the Commission, essential to limit VAT fraud effectively and to detect carousel fraud before major tax losses occur.
