Are you Using HMRC's Agent Account Manager Service?

HMRC's Agent Account Manager (AAMs) Service, based upon feedback at the recent HMRC seminars, would appear to be underutilised. This is a UK-wide team which HMRC have set up with a specific aim of helping tax agents and advisers deal with the department more effectively.

Covered on a number of occasions by Chartered Accountants Tax News, most recently at http://www.charteredaccountants.ie/General/News-and-Events/News1/2011/May/Tax-Agents-and-Advisers-phone-calls-from-Agent-Account-Managers-/, an online guide is available which explains what AAMs do, what services they provide, and how to contact them.

The AAM service can also be used to resolve ‘client-specific’ problems if an agent hasn't been able to resolve the matter through normal HMRC methods. To use the Agents’ Issue Resolution Service, an Agent must first register to use AAM services. An online form must also be completed for each issue an Agent would like AAM assistance with.

More information on the service, including how to register, is available at http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/agents/aam.htm We would also welcome feedback to leontia.doran@charteredaccountants.ie from members who have used the AAM service.
