Home Renovations Incentive Online Facility is Now Available

Revenue launched the new electronic system to administer the Home Renovation Incentive (HRI) in April .Contractors can access the facility through their ROS account or through the Revenue website. Similarly, homeowners can access the facility through the Revenue website.

According to a Revenue press release announcing the new online HRI system, in cases where work was carried out and paid for between 25 October 2013 and 9 April 2014 the homeowner needed to contact the contractor and ensure that details of the work is entered online as otherwise the homeowner will not be able to claim the HRI tax credit. The contractor had until 8 May 2014 to enter the details to HRI online.

According to the Revenue chairman, Josephine Feehily, the new HRI electronic system “gives compliant contractors and the legitimate trade a great opportunity to actually undercut rogue traders. The homeowner can look up online the work and payment details, and early next year will be able to claim the tax credit online.”

Revenue also published a manual on the HRI which is included in part 15 of their Income Tax, Capital Gains Tax and Corporation Tax manual.

An updated guide on the Incentive and updated Frequently Asked Questions are also now available.
