HMRC Begin Issuing Letters to Taxpayers on Client Lists

HMRC have contacted us to advise that from Friday 25th April HMRC began issuing letters to taxpayers who have appeared on the client lists of tax avoidance schemes for the period October–December 2013. The names of those who will receive the letters have been provided by promoters of schemes, as part of the Disclosure of Tax Avoidance Schemes regime requirements.

At the same time HMRC will also send the nominated agents of those taxpayers receiving the letters a copy of the letter with the names of their clients and the schemes they have appeared on the list for.

This is the first batch of letters issued as part of an ongoing HMRC engagement strategy with those considering tax avoidance and appearing on promoter lists. HMRC will continue to send letters to those appearing on subsequent client lists on a quarterly basis, in addition to reminder letters. Taxpayers or their nominated agents are encouraged to contact HMRC on a dedicated helpline if they have queries, or want further information following receipt of the letters.
