Employers: Miscellaneous Items for New Tax Year

HMRC has issued advice to employers for any employees asking why they haven’t yet received a new tax code for 2014–15. Employers are advised to tell the employee that this year HMRC has not issued P2 coding notices to those where there is no effect on their tax. Employers are also advised that Basic PAYE Tools for 2014–15 is now available.

No P2 coding notice will be issued to those who:

  • are not in employment and/or not receiving Jobseekers or Employment Support Allowance, or
  • have no liability to tax, or
  • have a 2014–15 tax code that is the same as for 2013–14

HMRC advises that taxpayers should only contact HMRC if their circumstances have changed so they are no longer in any of these three categories.

Basic PAYE Tools for 2014–15 is an update to the existing version, rather than a separate download, so existing users do not need to go to the HMRC website to get the update. If employers have the automatic updates switched on, and their computer is connected to the internet when they open Basic PAYE Tools, they will be automatically advised that the software update is now available.

The new version also allows users to produce P60s for 2013–14, start sending payroll submissions for the 2014–15 tax year and claim the new National Insurance contributions Employment Allowance of up to £2,000.
