HMRC issue 2nd batch of letters to taxpayers on client lists
HMRC have contacted us to advise that last month HMRC issued the 2nd batch of letters to taxpayers who have appeared on the client lists of tax avoidance schemes for the period January-March 2014, which this time, includes companies. The names of those who will receive the letters have been provided by promoters of schemes, as part of the Disclosure of Tax Avoidance Schemes regime requirements.
As before, HMRC will also send nominated agents of those receiving letters a copy of the letter with the names of their clients and the schemes they have appeared on the list for. Taxpayers or their nominated agents will be able to contact HMRC on a dedicated helpline if they have queries or want further information following receipt of the letters.
As HMRC now see the issue of these letters as being routine, they are not proposing to notify Compliance Reform Forum representatives, which includes Chartered Accountants Ireland, about their issue in future.
