HMRC Digital Strategy: 2014
HMRC published their digital strategy: 2014 setting out the Department’s digital vision, which is to give all individuals, businesses and agents their own online tax account, and for the vast majority to deal with HMRC through the modern digital services that will be offered. The strategy also describes what’s going to change, and when, over the next few years.
HMRC first published their first Digital Strategy in 2012. Since then there have been many changes and thus the new strategy reflects that. The report also outlines what HMRC is doing and plans to do for each of the 16 actions outlined in the 2013 government digital strategy.
According to the report, HMRC plans to enhance the systems that provide and support their digital services by:
- building a multi-channel digital tax platform, upon which all new digital services operate;
- connecting with HMRC’s existing systems and joining up services;
- ensuring services are safe, secure, trusted and fully accredited; and
- managing taxpayer authentication and agent authorisation in a straightforward way.
