Revenue headline results 2014 increased taxpayer compliance

According to the Revenue Headline Results 2014, tax compliance for large case taxpayers is 99%, up 2% from 2013. Compliance for medium cases increased by 2% to 97% and by 1% to 83% for all other cases. The bulk of taxes are paid by large and medium cases.

The Local Property Tax (LPT) compliance rate is also up on 2013, 95% of homeowners complied with their LPT obligations in 2014 and €452 million was collected.

The Headline Results 2014 also show that over €290 million was spent under the Home Renovation Incentive (HRI) in respect of nearly 14,500 properties. January was the first that claims for relief under the HRI can be made for expenditure incurred since 25 October 2013. Relief can be claimed via the HRI online system which can be accessed from the Revenue website.

Revenue was contacted over 10 million times on their electronic and telephone services. This is 1.75 million more than in 2013.

The total compliance interventions, including audit, completed in 2014 is 437,181 yielding over €610 million. While the number of compliance interventions is nearly 200,000 less than the previous year, the yield is €60 million more.

Revenue received 165 protective notifications in 2014 and 483 anti-avoidance cases were settled. Revenue issued 6 notices of opinion under section 811 TCA 1997, 30 less than in 2013.
