Commission questions VAT collection among Member States
According to a press release issued by the European Commission, revenue from VAT collection has failed to show significant improvement across EU Member States.
According to a VAT Gap study, 15 Member States saw improvements while 11 Member States saw a worsening in their VAT collection Revenues. The total amount of VAT lost across the EU is estimated at €168 billion. Pierre Moscovici, Commissioner for Economic Affairs, Taxation and Customs pointed to the need for further reform in VAT collection systems across the EU and urged Member States to take the necessary steps to fight tax evasion and fraud at all levels.
