The Implementation phase of BEPS gets underway

The OECD has entered in what it calls the implementation phase of the BEPS project. Among a number of implementation focused meeting held recently, the OECD hosted the 20th Annual Global Forum on Tax Treaties which was attended by more than 260 senior tax officials from 102 jurisdictions and international organisations to discuss the tax treaty-related outcomes of the OECD/G20 BEPS Project.

The Global Forum on Tax Treaties was the prelude to the Inaugural Meeting of the Ad hoc Group for the development of a Multilateral Instrument held on 5–6 November. According to reports from the OECD, over 100 countries, non-state jurisdictions and international organisations are working together on the development of a multilateral instrument capable of incorporating the tax treaty-related BEPS measures into the existing network of bilateral treaties. This inaugural meeting follows the procedural meeting held in May, that saw Mr. Mike Williams from the UK appointed as Chair, supported by Vice-Chairs Mr. Liao Tizhong from China,Mr. Mohammed Amine Baina from Morocco and Mrs. Kim S. Jacinto-Henares from the Philippines.
