ECOFIN backs plans to deter advisors of tax evasion schemes and pilot project for automatic exchange of information on beneficial owners
At an informal meeting of ECOFIN held on 22 and 23 April 2016, a pilot project for the automatic exchange of information on ultimate beneficial owners was agreed. A mandate for the Commission to introduce measures to deter advisors of tax evasion schemes was also agreed. According to Vice-President Dombrovskis, the European Commission will now work on a plan to implement these measures.
According to Vice-President Dombrovskis’ press release, the Commission will follow-up on the mandate provided at the recent ECOFIN meeting post Panama to explore ways to reduce tax evasion.
