Finance Bill 2016

Finance Bill 2016 was announced on Thursday 20 October. The Bill contains the tax measures announced in the Budget speech delivered by the Minister for Finance on 11 October 2016 along with a small number of additional measures.

Many of the measures included in the Bill are welcome; particularly the rewards introduced for Ireland’s indigenous sector. Although small, these measures will go some way to improving cash flows and incentivising entrepreneurs establish businesses here. Improvements to the income tax regime to more closely align the tax treatment of employees and self-employed are positive.

The Bill has gone through Second Stages and Committee Stage with one further Committee Stage expected on 15 of November, followed by Report Stage on 22–23 November. Below is a summary of the main headlines contained within the Bill. All of these changes are subject to the Finance Bill being passed.
