National Audit Office publish HMRC’s annual report and accounts

The National Audit Office recently published HMRC’s annual report and accounts. The report focuses on four key areas; tax revenues and spending in 2016/17, tax credits and child benefit error and fraud, transformation and customer service performance. The report was also accompanied by the Charter Annual Report and HMRC’s updated single department plan. HMRC have also published their updated strategy.

Quarterly performance

The first quarterly performance report for 2017 was also published recently; this is the first set of performance data since purdah was lifted after the recent general election. Data was also published for the months of March, April, May and June 2017. Readers can judge for themselves if the performance statistics are reflective of HMRC service levels on the ground.

Adjudicator’s Office Annual Report 2017

This recently published report covers the period 1 April 2016 to 31 March 2017, which is the first full year under the present Adjudicator. The Adjudicator’s Office is tasked with providing an independent review of complaints about HMRC and the Valuation Office Agency.
