CCAB-I respond to consultation on the exchange of data to combat e-commerce VAT fraud
Chartered Accountants Ireland under the auspices of CCAB-I responded to the European Commission’s recent consultation on data exchange between tax authorities for the purposes of combating VAT fraud in e-commerce.
The CCAB-I noted that the burden of policing VAT fraud is falling more and more on the shoulders of legitimate businesses. Therefore tax authorities should make greater use of the range of powers already available to them to deal with VAT fraud. A cohesive effort by tax authorities across the EU to exchange data should to counter VAT fraud and help reduce the burden on compliant taxpayers.
