Northern Ireland
Specifically on Northern Ireland, the latest Brexit statement says that this strategy will “enable the Government’s commitments to Northern Ireland to be met through the future relationship, avoiding the need for a border between Northern Ireland and Ireland, or within the UK.
Reaction to the proposals has been mixed. Tánaiste Simon Coveney said that he believes that the EU will reject some of the UK’s proposals as the UK are “picking and choosing” what elements of the Single Market they wish to remain part of. Mr Coveney did say that the document produced on Friday was a “move in the right direction” however and that the EU would take it seriously.
