UK Autumn Budget 2018 – positive developments for Northern Ireland
Northern Ireland did feature on Budget Day with the announcement of a £350 million Belfast City Region Deal. The government will also begin formal negotiations towards similar deals for Derry/Londonderry and Strabane.
Subject to value for money considerations, shared and integrated education and shared housing in Northern Ireland will be allocated £300 million for projects as part of the government’s commitment in the Fresh Start Agreement to provide up to £500 million in this area. £2 million in Belfast regeneration funding will also be provided for the recovery and regeneration of Belfast city centre following the August fire at Bank Buildings.
