Revenue publishes 2018 Annual Report

€54.6 billion in taxes was collected during 2018; an increase of €4 billion on 2017 figures. That’s according to Revenue’s Annual Report for 2018, published last month. Corporation tax was up almost 27 percent, while income tax and VAT saw increases of 6.6 percent and 7 percent respectively.

During 2018, Revenue carried out in excess of 580,000 compliance interventions, yielding €572.1 million in tax, interest and penalties. The Annual Report also contains a number of reports including publications on corporation tax and VAT and the results of Revenue’s first survey of taxpayers with self-employed income below €10,000 which measures satisfaction levels in dealing with Revenue.

Looking forward, Revenue Chairman Niall Cody said that “investing in high quality and secure digital and self-service channels will continue to be a key priority, including developments enabled by the receipt of real-time payroll data.”

On Brexit, the Mr Cody said that “Revenue is strongly focused on supporting and helping businesses to plan and prepare for Brexit.” Mr Cody reiterated calls for Irish businesses to apply for an EORI number which will enable trade with the UK; citing that there are still a significant proportion of businesses that have not yet registered.
