UK parliament to be suspended as threat of no-deal Brexit intensifies
At the time of writing, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that UK parliament will be suspended for more than a month and will resume with the unveiling of a new legislative agenda in a Queen’s Speech on 14 October – little more than two weeks before the scheduled Brexit day of October 31. This decision comes as the Prime Minister strengthens his attempts to deliver a no-deal Brexit, given his decision to leave the European Union on October 31 regardless of the outcome. In a letter written to Members of Parliament shortly after his announcement, the Prime Minister outlined this plan and also confirmed that the debate on the Northern Ireland (Executive Formation) Act 2019 will take place on 9 September.
