Autumn Budget

Last month, the Chancellor announced he was planning to hold the Autumn Budget 2019 on 6 November 2019. This was his first budget as Chancellor of the Exchequer. The Budget was canceled due to the forthcoming general election and the usual purdah period which applies beforehand.

This is likely to mean that even if a new government is formed before Christmas, a Budget is not likely until January 2020 which would be just weeks before the next Brexit deadline of 31 January 2020. Scotland is still, at the time of writing, planning to hold its Budget 2020–2021 in December.

The Chair of the Office Budget Responsibility wrote to HM Treasury with the intention to publish its restated March forecast on 7 November. However, this was subsequently canceled following advice from the Cabinet Secretary.
