COVID-19: update on UK supports

HMRC and the UK Government continue to update us on the various supports available for businesses and employers during the pandemic with revised arrangements put in place for the business interruption loan scheme.

The UK government has set up a dedicated support page where businesses can find support, advice and information to help with the impact of the Coronavirus. The Institute is continuously engaging with HMRC in respect of the various supports announced. Members are advised to regularly check the Institute’s latest updates page on the COVID-19 for updates and announcements.

In a letter to the Loan Charge All Party Parliamentary Group, HMRC has advised that special arrangements are being introduced for taxpayers affected by the loan charge rules relating to disguised remuneration tax avoidance schemes.

HMRC has also confirmed that employees forced to work from home due to measures to control the coronavirus pandemic are covered by home-working expenses rules.
