Revenue eBrief No. 80/16: Repeal of EU Savings Directive
On 10 November 2015, the Council of the European Union adopted a Directive repealing the Savings Tax Directive (EUSD). As a result of the repeal of the EUSD, Irish paying agents are no longer required to report interest payment information to Revenue on payments made to individuals resident in another EU Member State under the EUSD. Instead, reporting of financial information will be under Directive 2014/107/EU for mandatory automatic exchange of information in the field of taxation (DAC2).
Agreements to exchange EUSD equivalent information were also in place between the European Union and certain third countries, and Ireland and certain dependant territories and these have also been amended to reflect the introduction of financial account reporting under both the EU Directive (DAC2) and under the Common Reporting Standard (CRS).
Tax and Duty Manual (Repeal of EU Savings Directive) has been updated to reflect the current position in respect of the agreements to exchange EUSD equivalent information.
