Consultation on disincentives for advisors and intermediaries for potentially aggressive tax planning schemes
The European Commission has launched a public consultation to gather views on assessing if there is a need for action at EU level to introduce disincentives for intermediaries and tax advisors engaged in operations that facilitate tax evasion and tax avoidance. This consultation wants to gather views on the need for EU action, the different options identified if action is appropriate and the key design features of a possible disclosure regime.
This consultation forms part of the Commission’s plans for more measures to counter tax evasion and avoidance in the EU citing revelations of tax evasion in the Panama Papers as the reason for its increased focus in this area in a communication released last July.
The consultation runs from 10th November to 16th February 2017 and contributions can be emailed to TAXUD-UNIT-D2@ec.europa.eu. Further details are on the Commission’s website.
