Finance Bill 2018: Report stage amendments

Two proposed report stage amendments to the 2018 Finance Bill were published on 22 November; SARP and benefit-in-kind on electrical vehicles are affected.

The proposals are as follows:

  • An exemption from benefit-in-kind for electric vehicles with an original market value in excess of €50,000, where the vehicle was first made available to the employee between 10 October 2017 and 9 October 2018. This exemption applies from 1 January 2019 to 31 December 2020.
  • A €1m ceiling on eligible income for Special Assignee Relief Programme (SARP) recipients and an extension to the deadline to notify Revenue of the arrival of a SARP employee from 30 days to 90 days.

Over the coming weeks the Finance Bill will move through the Seanad Stage, with the final Seanad Report Stage scheduled for 11 December.
